The initial primary focus areas of this initiative are Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, which are among the poorest nations in Central America.

MISSION & VISION .
Exists to empower, protect and benefit women and girls and families in Central America.
The Center for Central American Empowerment, was established in 2016 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (EIN: 47-5558624) to create and/or support projects in Central America that empower, protect and benefit women, girls, strengthen families and their environment; address obstacles to their wellbeing; and promote male responsibility.

Many women and girls in Central America are among the poorest and most vulnerable in our hemisphere. The vision of the Center for Central American Empowerment is that women and girls in Central America have the comprehensive support needed for their educational and vocational needs, safety, health and wellbeing; with increased protections from exploitation, abuse and other obstacles that threaten their success; and that boys and men take responsibility for ensuring equity, equality and protection for all.

SOME OF THE PROJECTS THE CENTER HAS FUNDED .
Homes. Major support through the Center’s Delores Barr Weaver Home-build Fund to build permanent homes for families living in destitute conditions in Guatemala. Partners: Porch de Salomon and God’s Child Project.

Clean Water. Major support through the Center’s Delores Barr Weaver Clean Water Fund to provide safe drinking water in the homes of rural families. Guatemala. Partner: ADLEA. Nicaragua: El Porvenir.
Casa Jackson Hospital is the only private hospital for severely malnourished infants and children in Guatemala. All services are provided at no cost to the families and the mothers can stay with the child throughout the treatment period. Partner: The God’s Child Project.
CREAMOS is a unique women’s cooperative with comprehensive support services for women whose families who work in Guatemala City’s main garbage dump. Partner: CREAMOS.
Family support services for impoverished Mayan and Latino families, including a bilingual social worker who can converse with women and families in their indigenous language, in the Lake Atitlan area of Guatemala. Partner: Porch de Salomon

Comprehensive health services for children and adults, including training of peer educators and rural public health workers. Partners: Honduras: Hope for a Healthier Humanity. Guatemala: WINGS.
Support for students to help ensure educational success for impoverished, abused and/or exploited children. Partners: Guatemala: Niños del Lago, The God’s Child Project, Safe Passage, Covenant House International. Honduras: United in Hope/Centro Educativo Asunción de María, Lazos Education Fund/Nuevo Amanecer, Casa del Niño. Nicaragua: El Batahola del Norte.
Support for rural girls in Honduras attending trade-school, including non-traditional fields (auto-mechanics, welding, industrial arts). Partner: Lazos Education Fund/Nuevo Amanecer.
Education support for rural female students in Honduras to attend middle and high school, and the opportunity to study at the University of Honduras in Tegucigalpa, including housing and tuition assistance. Partner: Hope for a Healthier Humanity/ACOES project.

Shelter and comprehensive services for girls, boys, and women who are homeless, abused, neglected, and/or victims of sex- trafficking. Partners: Guatemala: Covenant House International, The God’s Child Project. Partners: Honduras: Covenant House International, Hogar de Niñas, Amparo San Antonio, Fundación Corazon de Gracia and Hogar Nazareth.
A new home and day center for adults with different abilities in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Partner: L’Arche USA and El Arca Honduras.​
